The South African AI Report
Everyone has an opinion on AI in South Africa. Almost nobody has a measurement. The South African AI Report is our attempt to fix that: a recurring, independent read on which AI tools and partners local businesses really use, what they cost in rand, and how they hold up against a fixed scorecard.
This first edition is the methodology release. We are publishing how the Report is built before we publish a single number, because a data product that quotes figures it has not actually measured is worse than no data product at all. The scores you can already trust live in the rankings methodology and in each published ranking.
What the Report measures
- Adoption. Which AI tools and categories South African businesses are actually putting into production, not just talking about.
- Cost in rand. The real local price of the leading tools, tracked over time as exchange rates and plans move.
- Fit. How the most-used tools score on the South African lens: POPIA, local billing, WhatsApp, support.
- The partner field. Who is building AI for local businesses, and how that field is maturing.
How it is built
Every figure that eventually appears here will come from one of two places: our own hands-on scoring against the published method, or structured tracking of real adoption signals. Each edition will state its sample, its date, and its limits in plain language. Where we are uncertain, we will say so.
While the data gathers
The fastest way to see how Ranker scores is the rankings themselves. Start with the best AI development partner and the best AI tools for South African business. Each one is a full, scored verdict built on the same method this Report runs on.
