The best AI presentation maker for most people is Gamma: you describe the talk or import your notes, and it builds a deck you can export to PowerPoint, PDF or Google Slides, on a free plan. Canva is the best value if you already design there, and Copilot in PowerPoint makes sense if you pay for Microsoft 365. We scored seven tools on their published plans, prices and features.
Why Gamma is the best AI presentation maker right now
Gamma is quick, flexible and generous at the start. You give it a prompt, pasted notes or an imported PDF or PowerPoint file, and it produces an editable deck with images. The free plan includes 400 credits at sign-up, up to 10 slides per prompt and exports to PPTX, PDF, PNG and Google Slides, which means you are not locked in.
The limits show up with regular use. Free credits are a one-off, free decks carry Gamma branding, and longer decks need a paid plan. Plus costs US$12 a month, or US$9 billed yearly, for 1,000 credits a month, up to 100 slides per prompt and no branding. Pro, at US$25 a month or US$18 billed yearly, adds premium image models, custom branding and analytics.

What is Gamma AI, and what does it cost?
Gamma is an AI tool for presentations, documents, simple websites, social posts and images. Its pitch is speed: one prompt becomes a structured, editable deck that you then refine. It imports PDF and PowerPoint files, so you can restyle an old deck rather than start again.
On price, Gamma is free to start, US$12 a month for Plus (about R196 before VAT) and US$25 a month for Pro, and Gamma says you save up to 28% by paying yearly. Ultra, at US$100 a month, is for heavy users who want the most advanced models. Gamma says prices are subject to tax depending on your location, so expect VAT on top in South Africa.
What is Beautiful.ai, and what does it cost?
Beautiful.ai is built around Smart Slides: layouts that adjust themselves as you add text, images and charts, so the deck stays tidy. It suits business pitches and reports where consistency matters more than speed of drafting. Every paid seat includes unlimited AI content generation, over 300 Smart Slide layouts and PowerPoint import and export.
There is no free plan, only a 14-day trial. Pro costs US$14.50 a month billed annually (about R237 before VAT), or US$45 a month if you want to pay month to month for a one-off project. Teams of two to 20 pay US$40 per user a month billed annually, or US$50 billed monthly.
Canva AI for presentations
Canva is the budget pick because Pro costs R900 a year in South Africa, less than R80 a month. Canva’s pricing shows Canva AI generating designs and elements on both the free and Pro plans, with free users limited to 20 AI uses a month across all tools. Pro raises that to up to 200 Premium AI uses and adds Canva AI 2.0, which Canva describes as conversational design that can build and change multi-page designs. The trade-off is that your deck lives in Canva, so check the export before you promise a client a PowerPoint file.
Claude Design: Anthropic’s design tool
Claude Design launched on 17 April 2026 as an Anthropic Labs research preview and is now included in all paid Claude plans; on Team and Enterprise plans an admin switches it on first. You describe what you need and Claude builds slides, one-pagers, prototypes or pitch decks, and it can apply your team’s design system. You can export to PPTX, PDF, Canva or standalone HTML. It has no free plan: Claude Pro costs US$20 a month, or R399.99 a month through the iPhone app in South Africa.
AI inside PowerPoint and Google Slides
If your company already runs on Microsoft 365, Copilot in PowerPoint is the least disruptive choice. It creates a deck from a prompt or from a Word document and then takes follow-up requests in chat. It is included with Microsoft 365 Personal (R159 a month), Family (R199) and Premium (R429) in South Africa, with usage limits, and only the subscription owner gets the AI features.
In Google Slides, Gemini can generate a fully editable deck after a short conversation, but Google says you need an eligible Google AI or Workspace plan, and it is desktop and English only for now. Plus AI adds similar tools to both Google Slides and PowerPoint from US$10 a month billed annually, after a 7-day trial. Pitch is another option: its pricing page lists a free plan with 100 one-off AI credits and a Plus plan at €10 a month billed yearly.
How to get a good deck from any AI presentation maker
Start from your own material. A clear outline, a report or a Word document gives the AI something real to structure, and the result needs less rewriting. Then set your brand colours and fonts once, check every figure against the source, and cut slides the AI added to fill space.
Be careful with confidential material. A client pitch or internal numbers pasted into a consumer AI tool may be stored by the vendor, and South Africa’s POPIA applies to personal information you upload.
